Individual | Inducted 2026

Marshall Titus is a Chicago-born singer, songwriter, producer, and actor whose career has encompassed recording, live performance, theater, film, commercial music, and advocacy. He began performing in local bands and vocal groups while in high school and later became a finalist in the male vocalist category on the television program *Star Search*. He also appeared in a cameo in the film *Barbershop*.

Titus received Chicago’s Jeff Award for his performance as James “Thunder” Early in Marriott’s Lincolnshire Theatre production of *Dreamgirls*. He developed his stage experience with Free Street Theater. At age 21, he sang his first national advertising jingle, Coca-Cola’s “Have a Coke and a Smile,” and subsequently provided vocals for campaigns for McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Schlitz.

As a songwriter and producer, Titus co-wrote “Sweet Melodies” for Linda Clifford and wrote and produced “Naturally” for Dennis Edwards. His anthem “Stop the Tears” was performed by Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago. Across four decades, he has continued to record and tour in Europe and is now based in Hamburg, Germany.

Titus has also used his music to address issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities. His video “I Will” was created for TPAN’s A Day With HIV campaign, a Chicago-born effort focused on ending the stigma surrounding HIV testing, disclosure, and relationships. Directed by John Gress, the video placed Titus, a Black gay soul singer, at the center of a conversation about HIV that many of his peers were still avoiding.

Titus describes his music as a reflection of his artistic identity rather than of current trends or tradition, and views music as a way to communicate with audiences around the world. His releases include the EP *Marshall Titus V: Songs For Humanity*, which combines classic soul with modern soul and pop.
